When I teach my beginning free motion quilting class I often refer to it as 'Quilt As Desired'. after going through detailed instructions on how to construct a quilt, the end usually says something like,'Quilt as Desired". However if the person is unfamiliar with free motion quilting they are not able to achieve that goal.
My main motivator to learn free motion quilting is to see a quilt through from start to finish. I can visualize a house, a quilt, a yard and then go for it and make that vision a reality. Very satisfying. As a free motion quilting enthusiast and teacher I decided it would be helpful to break down the quilting that I do on quilts.
Here is the way that I broke down the quilting.
My quilting is always improving, the more I practice and develop the skills, the better I get at doing it. The same goes for you. Spend time with your scrap quilt sandwiches and practice. Spend time with your pen and paper or white board or whatever way works for you. Practice, study and practice some more. The results are worth it.
